Black holes are «space holes»

Black holes are not actually the «holes». They are space objects inside which gravity is so strong that even light can’t get through!

What is the largest desert in the world?

No doubt you think that Sahara is the largest desert in the world, but in fact it is not! The deserts are uninhabited areas that get very little rains during the year. Thus the largest desert in the world is… Antarctica!

What is the highest mountain in the world?

The answer is evident: Everest! If we count the height from the sea level, the answer is correct. But if instead we take the total height of the mountain (including its underground part) it is not so exact. Mauna Kea (a volcano located in Hawaii) is 13,796 feet high and its another 19,039 feet are submerged in water.

 

Is Mars the Red planet?

The first mission to Mars dates back to the 70s with the Viking 1 expedition. The first images arrived didn’t feature however the particular red color we all know about. Today NASA has confirmed that some areas of the «Red planet» are actually gray and blue.

A car protects against lightning because it has rubber wheels

Yes, your car is an perfect shelter from lightning storms but not because of its «rubber wheels». In fact it is due to the metal body that acts as a cage against electricity. This protection works only if all doors and windows are closed.

 

Placebo effect works only for humans

This «remedy» does not only work for people but can also be effective for animals. Some studies claim that if you give a pill to your pet, he will react properly even if it’s just a vitamin.

Eating chocolate causes acne

Milk is a rich source of calcium but this does not prevent bone fractures. Research has shown that in countries where few dairy products are consumed, there are fewer cases of fractures. You can also take calcium from foods like salmon, sardines and beans!
