Sea organ in Zadar: a unique place where Mediterranean waves become music


On the Adriatic coast lies a picturesque Croatian city Zadar. This is one of the most popular resort in the country.

Just a bit more than 10 years ago, in 2005, a new sightseeing drawn the attention of the tourists and the locals. The architect Nikola Bašić has created an experimental musical instrument which plays the music of the sea.

A beautiful marble staircase stretched along the new city coast Nova Riva. There are 35 pipes of different diameter hidden under the steps. The waves interact with it and create special unforgettable sounds.

It is a unique organ, the music of which is played by the sea. The waves expel air from the pipes, so the sounds depend on their force, direction and altitude. The music is infinite and never sounds the same. Only the sea can play organ like this!

Nova Riva becomes more and more popular. Not only the tourists, but also the locals like to spend their time on marble steps and listen to the music of the sea.
